Yoga Benefits Both Physical And Mental Health

A recent article by Medical News Today compiled over 22 studies regarding the effects of Yoga on personal well being. The result? Adults aged 60 and older who regularly practice exercises such as yoga or pilates receive positive effects on both the body and mind.

Benefits on the body include improved bone density which will help to maintain bone health. This promotes positive balance, coordination, and strength which all contribute to a seniors ability to avoid falls. Simple weight-bearing exercises such as walking, yoga, climbing stairs, and even dance can all contribute to these benefits.

In addition to the physical benefits, these activities also contribute to mental well-being. Practicing yoga lowers the risk of cognitive impairment in older adults. This includes lower levels of anxiety and depression, boosted vitality, improvements in sleep quality, and even reduced symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis.
