‘Thinking Ahead’ Speaker Biogs

Sgt James Malone is the Crime Prevention Officer for the Greater Dun Laoghaire Area. He is an expert at proactive safety. Part of his role as Crime Prevention Officer includes educating people on how to protect themselves and how to become aware of the best security measures to take in their own homes. He will attend ‘Thinking Ahead’ to discuss safety and security for the ageing population.

Jim Coffey, Chairman of Halo Tiles & Bathrooms, renovated his home in 2016 to suit the future needs of he and his wife, Lilian. After selling the home they had lived in for 30 years in Killiney, they focused on future-proofing their new home in Dalkey. Jim made renovations to his new home, such as installing an upstairs and downstairs wet room for easier accessibility as he and his wife approach their older years. Jim encourages future-proofing homes and sees the benefit in being proactive about tailoring your home to fit any future needs.

Brendan Courtney is a well-known broadcaster and fashion designer. Brendan narrated the RTE documentary, ‘We Need to Talk About Dad’ that discusses the struggles he and his family encountered while caring for his late father, Frank after his stroke. The documentary sparked a nationwide conversation about caring for the elderly and raised awareness for the challenges that families face. Brendan will attend ‘Thinking Ahead’ to share his own story.

Justin Moran is Head of Advocacy and Communication at Age Action. Age Action was founded in 1992 and has a mission to achieve fundamental change in the lives of all older people by empowering them to live full lives as actively engaged citizens and to secure their rights to comprehensive high-quality services according to their changing needs. Age Action’s vision is that Ireland becomes the best country in which to grow older.
