Personal Care

Covid19 has limited the ability to come together to discuss care options in person however Castle Homecare has begun offering digital consultations to ensure care can begin when those in need require it.

For most people, growing older means that there are times when you find it difficult to manage with day-to-day living activities. You may realise you need help, or you may be caring for a friend or family member who needs help, but you just don’t know where to start or what help you can get. There are many different types of services we provide to support you, whatever your needs.

What is personal care?

Personal care is a very broad term used to refer to supporting with personal hygiene and toileting, along with dressing and maintaining your personal appearance.

It can cover, but is not limited to:

  • Bathing & showering, including bed-baths
  • Applying lotions and creams if required
  • Dressing and undressing for bed
  • Oral hygiene
  • Assistance to the toilet, including using a commode or bed pan
  • Changing continence pads
  • Support moving position in bed, to stretch and prevent bed sores
  • Changing or maintaining a stoma or catheter bag, or other form of clinical intervention

In getting to know you as a person, your care plan will outline your likes and dislikes, the hygiene or beauty products you want to use and what you feel most comfortable with.

Even though carers are trained to provide all aspects of personal care, there may be some things you’d prefer to do for yourself. A good carer will always give you space when you want it and encourage your independence wherever they can.

The options for personal care

Like all forms of care, support with personal care is built completely around your individual needs and personal routines. If you like to wash before breakfast or have a bath before going to bed, a carer will happily follow your schedule, letting you live the way you want.

With home care, you have the choice of having someone who visits at set times of the day or even overnight – to provide the support you need.

How does it work?

Trusting a service to assist you or someone you love with personal care needs is a really big deal, this is the most intimate of care we provide.  Our Carer’s are fully trained and understand discretion and respect are essential in assisting an elderly person with their personal care needs.  We approach these duties with compassion and patience.  Every human requires personal care, whether we can do it ourselves or rely on others, it is an essential human need.

First of all you are in the right place, information and support in understanding what needs you or someone you are caring for requires is so important in this first step of engaging care.  Every new client is met by a senior team member along with their family member where their exact needs can be discussed and agreed for a go-forward plan.  Their needs may increase or decrease over time and homecare can be flexible in this regard.  We reflect changes in client’s needs through care plans, carefully and compassionately formulated, led by our inhouse Nurse and experienced Team Leads.
